Take no chances with water

We take no chances with water

Just when I thought things were getting better they got worse. I looked at our water bill for our other property – it’s sitting empty – and the water bill is just a few dollars short of $450. This is with no one in the house. I don’t know what happened.

My wife went there a couple of nights ago and apparently the water is cut off. There is no water on the property. I guess the water company came by and cut it off. This is a real shocker since the normal bill is between $50 – $80 per month. In fact, our water bill showed 7.5 times the amount of water this past month as each of the previous three months.

There must be a leak somewhere. More money wasted. This same thing happened exactly one year ago when the bill there shot up to $302 with no one in the house. That time a toilet was leaking for about two weeks until I happened to go by and hear the water draining down the toilet.

Well this is a long holiday weekend so I won’t be able to do anything about it until Tuesday or Wednesday.

All these water problems have cost us an extra $900 +$302 +$441 over the past year. This is a huge cost for water that was never used. In fact it’s a huge cost for any amount of water that a residence could use.

Compare that to the previous home we had in San Bernardino county where the usual water bill was $14 – $28/mo. and the home before that in Los Angeles county of about $20 /mo. Our home in Riverside county is many times that on a normal basis if I don’t hand water.

Using our automatic sprinklers the water bill would be about $250 – $450 / month in the summer, but I do it manually by turning on the automatic sprinklers for only a few minutes once a day every three or four days in the summer. It saves us hundreds vs. letting them run on totally automatic.

Watering by hand cuts even that bill in half or less.
