A Deep Roar Outside – Road Repair?
September 21, 2009
I heard a deep roar outside while I was washing some clothes. I didn’t think much about it because the person next door has a heavy dump truck and several tractors and other large machines that he is keeping in his back yard. Sometimes one or two of them are parked on the front.
A few minutes later I walked along the side driveway to the front because I heard noises that seemed like they were coming from the front of our house. To my surprise I saw a large dump truck, a trailer and a machine to smooth asphalt patches.
There were two young men working on the patch in the front, in the street, where the road had been dug and patched due to a water leak in front of our house.
The men who fixed the water leak a couple of weeks ago had told me there would be someone to patch the street in 2-3 weeks. I had shined it on thinking it would probably be months before the street was patched up. I was wrong.
Now I just hope the previous water leak, caused by the crew that laid the fiber optic cable for Verizon a few months ago doesn’t occur again. The repair crew put in new copper tubing and a new shutoff valve so hopefully it will last as long as we own our house.
One big problem solved. One left to solve at our other house 20 minutes from here which had an “invisible” water leak. I still haven’t solved that and the resulting $500 water bill at an empty house.
